22 Inspiring Life Lessons from Gary Vaynerchuk

 October 28, 2021

By  Mary

These are life lessons for kids, teens, adults, and really any one…

One of the reasons I love Gary Vaynerchuk is because he’s authentic and not afriad to be himself. Actually, that’s probably why a lot of people like him (and hate him). He’s honest. He’s real. And in this world that’s tough to come by.

In this day and age, there are so many people who are bullsh**ers that when people are honest and open it truly stands out.

That’s why this is so powerful in marketing too. Being honest and open is a great value to have in your life and marketing and if you’re here, there’s no doubt you appreciate it too.

Now, without further ado, here are 22 very inspiring life lessons from the one, the only Gary Vaynerchuk (I’m not actually 100% sure he’s the only Gary Vaynerchuk out there).

#1: You Are 100% In Control Of Your Life, So Stop Complaining.

Sometimes, we just need a reality check. And this piece of wisdom from Gary Vaynerchuk does just that.

It stops you in your tracks and gives you that extra push you need to get your stuff together and start following your dreams.

Because honestly, if you want to start your own business, it’s not going to happen if you don’t take ownership and start working hard for it.

#2: Stop Judging Yourself

I love this! Stop judging yourself. It sounds so simple, but in reality, it’s really hard.

I’ve been realizing more and more lately that it’s okay to cut yourself a break every once in a while. We never expect perfection from anyone else, yet we have this idea that we’re somehow going to be perfect at everything we do.

Stop judging and be your biggest fan. Because honestly, if you don’t stick up for your dreams, hopes, and desires, no one else will.

#3: Kindness

Kindness…

Probably the most important thing on this planet. We all need more kindness in our lives, especially if we don’t have very much to begin with.

Let’s all try to be more kind to each other. There’s so much negativity in the world and life’s too short for anything but kindness.

4. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

There’s a reason why Gary V. hates this word. It’s easier said than done…

“Don’t compare yourself to the Kardashians,” he says. “Every second you spend thinking about what someone else has, it is taking away from time that you can create something for yourself.”

If you’re wasting hours comparing yourself to others, “you’re losing,” he says.

That’s because “you’re in your bed looking at somebody’s glamorous Photoshopped [picture] of them doing something cool, and you’re envious and you’re jealous and you’re impatient, and it’s crippling your upside.”

5. Just Ask

You can’t get a “yes” if you don’t ask. Being able to talk outright and honestly about things is hard for people, but it’s something you must be willing to do if you want to reach your goals.

First of all it’s the responsible, adult thing to do. Second of all, no one knows what you’re thinking or feeling. And even if you try to express your thoughts and feelings to others, they interpret what you say in a way that makes sense to them.

Which could lead to even more confusion. This is why so many people struggle with communication!

Think of it this way…

Your boss is super busy running the company.

Dealing with everything that business owners have to deal with.

And you’re working hard, putting in extra work, and you’re mad that your work is going unnoticed by your boss.

Maybe you feel like you deserve a raise?

Well, you’re never going to get that promotion you’re working so hard for unless you ask because your boss is busy and has too much on their plate already.

6. Work Hard

If you’re not willing to work hard, then you’re not ready to be successful. Anyone who’s ever made it, has worked hard.

Don’t be afraid of hard work, be afraid of never reaching your dreams.

7. Start Creating

There’s a point where you need to stop consuming content and start creating content.

The best part about living on this planet is the fact that there are so many individuals with their own unique things to say and experiences to share.

Just because you don’t think you have anything new or creative to bring to the table, shouldn’t stop you from creating.

Someone out there will be inspired or can even learn something new from you.

Even if it’s just one person, it can make a difference.

So start creating by starting your own blog

Starting your own business

Or by sharing your designs with the world!

Do whatever makes you feel fulfilled because life’s too short not to.

8. Failure Is More Important Than Success.

Failure teaches you what you need to know to be successful.

I’m a softball coach. I played through college and the only way I did the best in softball is by practicing and making mistakes on my own.

A coach can’t play for their team, they can only guide them.

The team makes the mistakes and learns from them on their own.

So let them fail and learn on their own!

I love that Gary has this philosophy. He says he has this philosophy about raising kids too.

9. Be Real. Be You.

This is great advice in general. Because it’s so hard to live a happy, authentic life if you’re not living in alignment with who you really are.

When you’re true to yourself, you’re happier and your message shines through to your audience more.

People aren’t stupid. They know when people are lying to them. They know if you’re not happy. And they know if you’re not being yourself and in this day in marketing real, authentic marketing wins more than the over-hyped marketing.

10. What You Want And What You Do Have To Match.

If you have a dream of starting your own online business, and you only talk about it and don’t actually do anything, then you’re not in alignment.

If you want something, then you have to work for it.

It’s fine if you don’t want to work for it, but Gary says, “Don’t complain about it if you’re not working for it too.”

11. Care About Your Customers

This message goes deeper than just caring for your customers.

Don’t just care about them because they’re your customers.

Care about them because they are other human beings living on this planet with you.

We should all strive to care for others more than we are now.

12. Live Frugal. Play The Long Game.

Save your money for a time when you’re going to need it.

You better believe Gary Vee is currently saving his money.

This is true in many things in life. Sometimes you may have to put in the time and effort and sacrifice some things in order to one day be in a place you actually want.

Buy things you acutally need and everything else doesn’t matter.

Save your money for a time where you can use it to get ahead.

If you follow Gary Vee, you know one of his goals is to buy the Jets one day.

He already owns a company worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

And what does he do with this money?

He doesn’t blow it on stuff he doesn’t need, he saves it.

Why?

Because he wants to reach his goals in the future and he needs money to do it.

Take a page out of Gary’s book and start saving money because that gives you leverage to one day reach your dreams.

13. You Can’t Cry About What You Can’t Control.

There’s so much going on in your life.

The last thing you should do is focus on the things you can’t control.

Focusing on the things you can’t control only adds to your stress and overwhelm.

Take a deep breath and start working because it’s what you can control.

14. Love Your Parents.

You love your parents, but sometimes they hold control over your life.

Gary Vee says that if you want to make sure your parents don’t have any leverage over your life, then get financially independent from them.

Once you’re financially independent from them, then their opinion on your life choices don’t have as much hold.

15. Follow Your Passions

This is probably one of the most important lessons that Gary Vee teaches us. Follow your passions. (Yes, even if it doesn’t make you as much money.) Because only when you follow your passions will you have a life that you truly love.

Have you heard of Tim Ferris?

If you haven’t, you may be interested in reading The 4 Hour Work Week. That’s what he’s best known for.

It was a best-selling book. In that book, he says something like, “Even if you make more money doing something you hate, you really make less.”

If you’re ready to start creating the life of your dreams and need some funding to help get you there, then apply for a business loan here: https://apply.fundwise.com/mbrainard.

16. Step Out Of  Your Comfort Zone.

Happiness begins on the other side of discomfort.

If you’re scared or nervous of something new, you shouldn’t let it stop you from experiencing it. In fact, most of the time, once you step out of your comfort zone and do the thing that scared you, you’re happier because of it. It seems scary until you do it.

For example, I hate swimming in the ocean.

There are too many things stacked against you.

There are big waves that can pull you under the water and keep you there…

There are strong currents that can drag you out to sea…

And there are animals that can kill you that swim literally right next to you.

So, I’m not a fan.

But, I had the opportunity on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to go snorkeling.

I was horrified, I was panicking, and having trouble breathing.

But what did I do?

I did it anyway.

I didn’t want to let my fear hold me back!

You shouldn’t let your fear hold you back either.

And guess what? I had the best time snorkeling, I didn’t get dragged underwater by waves or sharks. And it gave me more confidence in myself!

So if fear is holding you back from doing something, my advice is to just do it.

At first, you may feel like you’re a little in over your head, but after you accomplish your goal, you’ll be happier and more proud of yourself than you ever have been.

17. Be Grateful.

Being grateful is the key to a happy life.

If you look at life from the perspective where you’re always wishing for things you don’t have, you’re always going to be unhappy.

Only when you shift your thinking and start being thankful for what you have, will you start to be truly happy.

18. Give More Than You Take.

If more people listened to this advice, we’d have happier people living on this planet.

When you give more than you take, you’re not only helping others, but you’re living outside of your own existence.

Too many people these days only care about themselves and aren’t willing to help others.

Let’s start giving more, even if you’re donating a little bit of your time, or doing something little to make someone’s day, it’ll add up!

The goal I set for myself is to be more kind. I want to accept people, listen to them, give them my full attention, and I also want to donate more. What are you doing to give more than you take?

19. Get Thrifty.

If you’ve followed Gary before, then you know he loves being thrifty.

And by thrifty, I mean he likes going to yard sales, buying other people’s stuff, and flipping it for a profit.

If you’re looking to make money but don’t know how, he suggests going to garage sales and flipping the stuff you buy for cash.

You’ll find videos of him doing this to this day.

Some people make 6 figures a year doing this, so don’t knock it until you try it.

20. Make 64 Pieces Of Content In A Day.

If your goal is to start your own business, then Gary suggests you start making and sharing content every day.

The more content you make in a day, the more chances your business will be successful. Read Gary Vaynerchuk’s full guide on How to Make 64 Pieces of Content in a Day.

21. Strike While It’s Hot.

Want to know why striking while it’s hot is important for your success?

Because it builds momentum. And momentum is what you need to be successful at anything.

Do you want to workout 5 times a week, but are currently used to working out only 5 times a month?

You need momentum.

Once you get into a rhythm of working out, then it’ll eventually get easier for you to do it.

And then soon enough you’ll be at the point where you want to workout 7 days a week.

That’s the power of momentum!

22. Stop Dwelling.

Read This Before You Make Another Decision

There’s no perfect decision, just life.

Instead of focusing on what happened, or worrying about the future, just get work done.

I struggle with this on a daily basis.

I’m constantly worrying about something and the only way that helps me stop worrying and stop overthinking is to just shut my brain up by getting work done.

Plus, when you get work done, there’s less to worry about. It’s a win-win.

Now, What? Make Sure You’re 100% In Control of Your Life…

Gary Vaynerchuk said it best, “You are 100% in control of your life.”
